Sasha Buddy

Hey gang! I just wanted to update you on the going-ons.

I’ve been quite busy with my cat, Sasha. She’s very very old. She was my grandma’s cat up until I pretty much inherited her a few years ago.

I’ve been catching her up on all her vet appointments and such because my grandma never did those type of things for her–not because she was lazy or anything of that sort–but because she never felt the need to do so.

Sasha has always been a pretty healthy cat. She keeps to herself and doesn’t get into fights with the neighborhood animals and always stays very close to the house. Anyway, as I was getting her caught up on her vet visits, I found out that she is actually going through kidney failure. She’s a very old cat, probably nearing 18 or so, and it’s just kind of luck of the draw if a cat develops this in their old age. She still acts like her normal self. Quiet, loving, begging for treats, and maintains her steady health otherwise.

She does needs to be given an IV every other week, if not sooner than that, so it can help her kidneys flush everything out.

Most recently, she’s been spotting blood in her urine. She’s also urinating on odd things, like the bed, the couch, surge protectors, etc. First, the vet thought it might have been a urinary tract infection (UTI), so he prescribed an antibiotic that I had to give her twice a day by syringe into the mouth.

The blood didn’t clear up and she’s still peeing everywhere, so I took her into the vet again, and he did a non-invasive probe over her bladder area, and found a mass of some sort either near or in the bladder.

I have an ultrasound scheduled for her this week because he said that that will actually give a clearer picture of what that mass might be. Worst case scenario, it is a tumor. Best case scenario, it is just a blood clot.

Either way, I hope they can detect what’s wrong so I can help to get Sasha treated and then into recovery. I love her so much and don’t want her to be in pain or to suffer. She looks like she strains a little right now when she urinates, so I’m hoping that they can help her sooner rather than later.

Other than that, she’s perfectly fine and actually quite healthy. Even in the stages of her kidney failure, she’s still maintaining pretty steady and good health.

Just wanted to update you all. Hope for the best! And I will keep you posted!
